The University of Miami is proud to be hosting the
ACCIAC Annual Student Leadership Symposium!
The 2014 ACC Leadership Symposium is a three-day leadership conference aimed at engaging students with peers across the Atlantic Coast Conference. This year, the ACC Leadership Symposium will be hosted at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida February 21-23, 2014.
Overview of the Symposium
Throughout the symposium, delegates will explore and analyze the past, present and future of social change throughout the discussion of social issues. Delegates attending will gain a perspective of the past while gaining tools and resources to understand how to effectively enact social change in the current and future of our ever-changing world.
Delegates will be exposed to ways they can enact social change within communities across the ACC. Utilizing a variety of tools and resources, delegates will then create a project to raise awareness on numerous social issues. Such resources and tools of change to raise awareness may include social media, speeches, fashion, personal strengths, fundraising, culture, mentoring, entrepreneurship and networking.
Four umbrella social issues have been identified that delegates will rank in order of preference prior to attending the symposium. These umbrellas are: Human Rights, Environment, Health and Poverty. Prior to arrival, students will be placed in groups of approximately seven students (across all institutions) according to their preferences. Delegates will then be placed to one of eleven social issues that fall under their respective umbrella preference. These issues include education, LBGTQ, environment (Energy & Food Production), immigration, disabilities, children's issues, religion and violence, poverty, gender issues, health care systems (mental health included), and global medicine.
